Feathered graveyard visitors

So many human visitors come into the Old Burying Ground that it is ranked as the most visited site in town. Among bird species, there are visitors too. Here are some that I’ve run into…

Visiting Woodpeckers stop by occasionally to forage for insects and grubs on the ancient trees inside the walls of the Old Burying Ground. They “eat and run” so to speak.


Be like the bird that, pausing in her flight while on boughs too slight, feels them give way beneath her and yet sings, knowing that she hath wings.
